The Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children (ICPC) is statutory law in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The ICPC establishes legal and administrative procedures governing the interstate placement of children.   All interstate adoptive placements must comply with the ICPC.

The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) relates to the adoption of children who have, or who may have, Native American Indian heritage. It affects many more children than most adopting parents realize.
